Through fixed-frame extreme close-ups and the absence of narrative, Hamlyn transforms skin into a temporal, fragile membrane. Drawing on Vivian Sobchack’s phenomenology of film experience and Laura U. Marks’ concept of “haptic visuality,” this analysis demonstrates how the film’s materialist aesthetics evoke the viewer’s own corporeal awareness, making ephemerality the very subject of the work.
