English Lads — Jack Roberts
He wasn’t a man of grand gestures. When his mate Tom needed somewhere to crash, Jack offered the spare room and a cup of tea. When Lena’s bus failed, Jack flagged down the next one and stayed until she found her stop. He held stubborn optimism like an old coin—worn but worth keeping.
Unlike traditional vloggers who rely on constant chatter, Roberts uses ambient sound. In his most famous short film, "The Walk Home," a young lad walks through an estate after being laid off. There is no dialogue. We only hear the crunch of gravel, the distant siren, and the swish of a cheap anorak. It is in this silence that Roberts argues the true "English Lad" lives—buttoned up, but boiling inside. Jack Roberts English Lads
