While comedies fill the theaters, Safety Gang represents the artistic muscle of the industry. Ranjit Bawa has steadily moved toward content-driven cinema, and this film is perhaps his most bold offering yet. Set against the backdrop of student politics and the drug menace, the film strips away the glossy glamour usually associated with Punjabi heroes. It is raw, often uncomfortable, and speaks directly to the youth of the state. This isn't the Punjab of lush green fields and weddings; this is the Punjab of ground realities.
