Newhouse DT is often classified as a geometric sans-serif. Unlike its predecessors, such as Futura or Avant Garde, Newhouse DT softens the rigid geometry with subtle humanist adjustments. In the Extrablack weight, these adjustments are vital. The ink traps (the recesses at the junctions of strokes) are minimized to allow for a solid, uninterrupted block of color, yet the counters (the white space inside letters like 'a', 'e', and 'g') remain open enough to maintain legibility at smaller sizes or low resolutions.
