ఒకరోజు ఒక ముని రామకృష్ణుడి తెలివితేటలను చూసి, ఒక మంత్రాన్ని ఉపదేశించి, "దీనిని కాళికాదేవి గుడిలో లక్ష సార్లు జపిస్తే ఆమె ప్రత్యక్షమవుతుంది" అని చెప్పాడు. రామకృష్ణుడు అలాగే జపించగా, అమ్మవారు వెయ్యి తలలతో ప్రత్యక్షమైంది. అప్పుడు రామకృష్ణుడు నవ్వడం మొదలుపెట్టాడు. అమ్మవారు ఎందుకు నవ్వుతున్నావని అడగగా, "తల్లీ! మాకు ఉన్న ఒక్క ముక్కుకు జలుబు చేస్తేనే కష్టంగా ఉంటుంది, మరి నీకు వెయ్యి ముక్కులకు జలుబు చేస్తే ఎలా తుడుచుకుంటావా అని నవ్వు వచ్చింది" అన్నాడు. అతని హాస్యానికి ముగ్ధురాలైన అమ్మవారు అతన్ని "వికటకవి"గా దీవించింది.
